Richard L. Kittrell, 88, of Springville, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at Pinicon Place Care Center in Anamosa. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Janet; a son, Allen (Laura) of Coralville; and two daughters, Karen Kittrell and Diane (Mark) Smith, all of Bloomfield. He is also survived by six grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one stepgreat-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joan.
Richard was born Dec. 21, 1928, in Nashville, Tenn., the son of Charles and Margaret Hill Kittrell. He graduated from Arsenal Tech High School in Indianapolis, Ind., and later from Purdue University with a degree in engineering. Richard married Beverly Bauer in 1953. Beverly passed away in 1981. He later married Janet L. Lindemier on May 14, 1983, in Viola.
Richard was an engineer at Rockwell Collins and retired from there after more than 35 years in 1992. He proudly served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
Richard had a lifelong love of electronics and working on the computer. He was an avid ham radio operator and was a member of several local ham radio clubs. His greatest joy, however, was the time spent with his beloved family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him
