BERTHA "BECKY" GERALDINE PHILLIPS

Bertha "Becky" Geraldine Phillips, 97, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at Living Center West. Celebration of life services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Diane Townsley presiding. Visitation will be one hour before services Friday at the church. Private family inurnment will be in Baker Cemetery. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre are caring for Bertha and her arrangements.
Bertha was born May 10, 1920, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Tjaden) Hunter. She graduated from Wilson High School, Class of 1939. She was united in marriage to Walter Aehle in 1941. He later died in 1947. She was later united in marriage to Jack Phillips in April 1948. He died in 2001. Becky worked at Peter Pan/Colonial Bakery at Meis's Grocery Store for many years as well as spending most of her life as a dedicated wife and mother. She enjoyed gardening, playing games, quilting, reading and spending time with her family. Becky was a longtime active member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
Bertha is survived by her children, John (Sandy) Phillips of Cedar Rapids, Dennis (Dianne) Phillips of Spencer and Tim (Pat) Phillips of Hiawatha; nine grandchildren, Susan Phillips, Michael (Michelle) Phillips, Peter Phillips, Laura (Barry) Miller, Monica (Joe) Levinson, Sean (Melissa) Phillips, Heather Lucas, Matthew (Kristina) Casey and Mariann (Ralph) Hein; 22 great-grandchildren; as well as her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; two sons, Donald and Ronald Phillips; and siblings, Katherine, Angelina, John, Jesse, Madeline and Henry.
Memorials may be directed to Asbury United Methodist Church in her name.
