Natalie Olive Tubbs was born Sept. 25, 1919, in Duluth, Minn., the daughter of Lawrence and Ida (Nielson) Tronsdal. She received all of her education in Duluth, and graduated from Denfeld High School in 1937. This was followed by two years at Duluth State Teacher's College, where she received her certificate to teach in 1939. After attending summer sessions, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1954 from the University of Minnesota at Duluth. She then went on to teach until 1961. She taught in one-room schools for three years. She then taught for two years in Deerwood, Minn., and for 17 years in Grand Rapids, Minn.
On March 11, 1961, she married John "Jack" Tubbs at Zion Lutheran Church in Duluth, and then went to live in Cedar Rapids, as he had his own business there. In Cedar Rapids, they were members of Hope Lutheran Church, where she served on various committees of the Lutheran Women's Club. Natalie always enjoyed all the trips she and Jack took through the years. They traveled to Apache Junction, Ariz., where they spent several winters. In the summer, they enjoyed going fishing in Minnesota and Canada. Natalie enjoyed reading, crafts, sewing quilts for church, knitting, crocheting and, of course, fishing.
Natalie is survived by a sister, Gloria Picciolo of Tamarac, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ruth (John) Mehle and Lola (Richard) Gronseth; stepdaughter, Jackie (Larry) Kelley; nephew, Craig Gronseth; and brother-in-law, Rosary Picciolo.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hope Lutheran Church or the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
