Marshalltown Kmart to close

Sears Holdings will close a Kmart in Marshalltown, along with 71 other stores, the Business Insider website reported late Tuesday.

The Gazette reported Tuesday the chain would close a Kmart in Iowa City, the last such store in the Corridor. A Sears Holdings spokesman did not reply when asked if the company would close other locations.

Sears Holdings, Kmart's parent company, released a list internally Tuesday obtained by Business Insider that indicated it would shutter 72 stores by September. Those come in addition to a previously announced 180 closures, the business news publication reported.

The Iowa City and Marshalltown Kmarts were the only Iowa stores on the new list.

When the stores close, the next closest Kmarts will be in Oelwein and Moline, Ill.
