JEAN HEADY-SPAHR
Cedar Rapids
Jean Heady-Spahr passed away in Naples, Fla., on June 25, 2016.
Jean was born in Nashua, Iowa, on Aug. 5, 1946, the only child of Ruby (Hammond) and Perry Ferguson. In 1968, Jean earned a B.A. in French at Cornell College in Mount Vernon. Jean taught at Clarence-Lowden High School until 1977. From 1981 to 1986, Jean worked with mentally ill and mentally challenged adults in Cedar Rapids.
In 1984, Jean met the love of her life, Robert Spahr. After living in Clearwater, Fla., they moved to Naples in 1988. Jean taught at Lely High School from 1990 to 1993 and at Naples High School until her retirement in 2009. Jean and Bob enjoyed a wonderful life, marrying in 2003. They loved good food, music, John Deere tractors and an adventurous road trip, making friends everywhere. After Bob retired in 1994, they began summering at their Monticello farm, where they were the happiest. Bob passed away in 2005.
Jean continued to enjoy her home in Naples, her artwork, travel and her beloved cat, Jerry. Jean enjoyed spending time with many friends whose companionship she cherished.
Jean will be buried beside Bob at Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello, Iowa, on Aug. 10, 2016. A graveside gathering for family and friends will begin at 11 a.m.
Jean will be fondly remembered and sadly missed.
