John Calvin Munn, 52, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017. Celebration of Life will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, with a sharing time at 6:30 p.m. at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Inurnment is at a later date in Prough Cemetery, Kirksville, Mo.
Survivors include his parents, Emery and Lurla Munn of Kirksville; his family, Calvin Munn (Katie Haskinson), Calynne Munn, and Donte, Donnie and Christina Schutzman, all of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Tammy (Jeff) Nietz of Eagan, Minn., Teresa (Scott) McKeever of Des Moines and Holly (Dave) Rasmussen of Ely; and nine nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his dog, Abbie.
John was born June 29, 1964, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son of Emery and Lurla (Montgomery) Munn. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1982, and after graduation he attended Kirkwood Community College. John was an owner-operator truck driver for several local companies and operated Munn Metal Recycling.
He drove No. A32 stock car at Hawkeye Downs and enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and shooting pool.
He loved being a father, spending time with his family, hunting on the Munn family farm in Missouri and his mother's cooking.
