Freshman defensive back Jalen Embry has decided to leave the Iowa program, the school announced Tuesday.
Embry, a Detroit, Mich., native, signed with Iowa in 2014 and redshirted last season. He was on the sidelines for Saturday's scrimmage, but didn't participate in drills.
'Jalen Embry has decided to leave the football team,” Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said in a statement. 'Jalen has elected to continue his academic and football career at a junior college and leaves Iowa in good standing; both academically and through his citizenship. Our staff and Jalen's teammates wish him the best.”
Embry caught 53 passes for 1,026 yards and 12 touchdowns on offense as a senior at King High School. He also was named first team all-state by Detroit Free Press and first-team all-metro by Detroit News. Embry played defensive back and wide receiver and returned kicks on special teams.
Embry had 11 offers when he committed to Iowa, including Wisconsin and Illinois.
