Schminkey, Donald E.
Donald E. Schminkey, 80, of Olin, died Tuesday evening, Sept. 4, 2012, at his home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at Springs of Life Foursquare Church in Cedar Rapids, where friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at Norwich Cemetery, Martelle, with military honors. Lahey Funeral & Cremation Services in Olin is in charge of arrangements.
Donald was born Dec. 2, 1931, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to John and Grace (Cook) Schminkey. He graduated from Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids. On Dec. 18, 1961, he married JoAnn Terry in Marion. Donald served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War, receiving two purple hearts. Donald worked as an auto service manager at Montgomery Ward in Cedar Rapids.
He was a member of Springs of Life Foursquare Church in Cedar Rapids.
Donald is survived by his wife, JoAnn Schminkey of Olin; nine children, Lonnie (Dale) Viner of Urbana, Vickie (Tim) Noska of Coggon, Terrie Ann (John) Trachta of Cedar Rapids, Donald Eugene (Tina) Schminkey Jr. of Shellsburg, Marty (Jaleda) Schminkey of Olin, Ben (Lynn) Schminkey of Dubuque, Ted (Deb) Schminkey of Morrison, Ill., Scott (Angie) Schminkey of Olin and Becky (Cory) Dayton of Omaha, Neb.; 26 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby and Betty in Arizona; and two brothers, Harold (Dixie) Schminkey and Robert (Deanna) Schminkey of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
