Marie Collette Doan, 77, of Independence, died Sunday, May 14, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids.
Collette was born Feb. 22, 1940, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Raphael and Astrid M. (Anderson) Burr. She was a 1958 graduate of Jefferson High School, Independence, and on Oct. 11, 1958, she married the love of her life, Gary Doan, at St. John's Catholic Church. They made their home in Independence, where Collette worked for Ace Hardware. In 1966, they started Gary Doan's OK Body Shop/Ski-Doo, where Collette worked as the bookkeeper until 2009. She enjoyed spending her winters at her home in Bonita Springs, Fla., and her summers in Independence.
She enjoyed golfing and was a member of River Ridge Golf Course in Independence and the Bonita Bay Golf Course in Bonita Springs.
She is survived by her two children, Aaron (Sue) Doan, Independence, and Sheila (Todd) Ogden, Naples, Fla.; three grandchildren, Alexa (David Burns) Doan, Independence, and Scott and Kayla Ogden, Naples; a great-grandchild, Kyle Burns; a sister, Cate (Ed) Bigler, Nashville, Tenn.; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Burr, Phoenix, Ariz.
Collette was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gary, in 2008; and a brother, Jim Burr.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, with Pastor Greg DeBoer officiating. Burial will be in the Wilson Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until services Friday at the funeral home.
