HARRY BEATTY Bonita Springs, Fla. Harry Edward Beatty passed away at his home in Bonita Springs, Fla., on Nov. 1, 2014, at the age of 79. He was born on Dec. 9, 1934, in Shellsburg, Iowa, to Homer Frank Beatty and Hazel Fern Beatty. He graduated from Shellsburg High School in 1952. Mr. Beatty attended and graduated cum laude from Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colo., with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business and banking in 1956. He served from 1957 to 1959 as an officer in the United States Army assigned to the Nike Guided Missile Battalion at Fort Bliss, Texas. Upon completion of his tour of duty, Mr. Beatty attended and graduated from the University of Iowa Law School, Iowa City, Iowa, with Juris Doctorate in 1961. He associated with Lynch, Dallas Law Firm from 1961 until his death. Mr. Beatty was a member of the past American Bar Association and a current member of the Iowa Bar Association and the Linn County Bar Association. In 2011, he was awarded a 50 Year Member Certificate from both the Iowa Bar Association and the Linn County Bar Association. He was elected to serve for three terms on the Board of Directors for the Cedar Rapids Community School District from 1971 to 1980. He served as the president of the board from 1977 to 1979. Mr. Beatty was a member of the Thursday Optimist Club in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, since 1971. He served as president from 1977 to 1978 and was awarded a Life Membership. Mr. Beatty was a member of many professional and social organizations, including the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, the Cedar Rapids Country Club, the Cedar Rapids Scottish Rite, the El Kahir Shrine of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the Thursday Noon Optimist Club, the Benton City Masonic Lodge #81 of Shellsburg, Iowa, the Royal Order of Jesters 139 of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and the Spring Run Country Club, Bonita Springs, Fla. Mr. Beatty was a member and trustee of the First Congregational Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He also was a visiting member of the First Congregational Church of Naples, Fla. Mr. Beatty is survived by his wife, Nancy Lynch Beatty; sister-in-law, Delores Beatty of Maplewood, Minn.; brother and spouse, Boyd and Dorothy Beatty of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter and spouse, Cindy and Michael Conrads of Bishop, Ga.; son and spouse, David and Trudy Beatty of Ashburn, Va.; son and spouse, Robert and Raynette Beatty of Fort Myers, Fla.; grandson, Nicholas Conrads; granddaughter and spouse, Jennifer Conrads Kirkconnell and John-Michael Kirkconnell; granddaughter, Shelby Beatty; grandson, Sean Beatty; and great-grandson, Luke-Patrick Kirkconnell. Mr. Beatty was preceded in death by his father, Homer Frank Beatty; mother, Hazel Fern Beatty; brother, Donald Beatty; and brother, Glenn Beatty. A memorial Service will be held at the First Congregational Church, 361 17th St. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, when the family will be in Iowa.
