Marjorie Baker Beed,
94, of Hot Springs Village, Ark, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at Echo Hill Presbyterian Church, 9000 C Ave., Marion, with the Rev. Nathan Williams officiating. Burial: 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at Hampton Cemetery, Hampton, Iowa.
Survivors include her children and spouses, Doug (Penny) Beed of Hot Springs Village, Ark., Barbara (Daryl) Henry of Hot Springs Village, Dave Beed of Alexandria, Va., and Don Beed of Rochester, Minn.; eight grand-children; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Beverly (Willie) Latiolais; her husband, David J. Beed; her parents; two sisters; and a brother.
Marjorie was born Nov. 11, 1920, at Newton, Iowa. She was raised in Iowa Falls, Iowa, where she graduated from high school. She graduated from Ellsworth Junior College with teaching credentials and taught in Iowa for several years. She married David Beed on June 5, 1942, in Louisiana. He preceded her in death on Dec. 23, 1963.
In 1953, their family moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where their children were raised. She worked for educational agencies for 28 years until her retirement in 1985. She was an active member of Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church, where she served as elder, deacon and teacher. She was extremely active in the Linn County History Center. She remained in Cedar Rapids until her move to Hot Springs Village in 2010.
