Update: Wisconsin pitcher has no-hitter through eight

Aug. 24, 2010 9:04 pm
Wisconsin Timber Rattler pitcher Jake Odorizzi entered Tuesday night's with a 6-3 record and 3.58 earned-run average. The 19-year-old right-hander is working on improving both of those stats, no-hitting the Kernels through seven innings.
The Kernels have had three base runners. Jose Jimenez reached on an error and Randal Grichuk got on by a fielder's choice later that inning. Jimenez was hit by a pitch with two outs in the fourth and that was the last Kernels base runner so far.
Odorizzi has moved into the ninth inning with the no-hitter. After a leadoff walk to Jon Karcich, Odorizzi got Justin Bass to fly out before striking out the next two batters. Wisconsin leads 3-0 and has 10 hits.
Odorizzi threw 118 pitches through eight no-hit innings and didn't come back out for the ninth inning. Reliever Adrian Rosario came in for the ninth to close it out and notch the third no-hitter thrown at Memorial Stadium this season.
