Sheldon, David Allan
David Allan Sheldon, 63, of Marion, passed away at his home Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, after a courageous battle with renal cell carcinoma. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
David is survived by Doris, his loving wife of 41 years; daughter, Angie (Rick) VanderLeest of Urbandale; two brothers, Tom (Deb) R. Sheldon of Cedar Rapids and Jon (Trisha) Sheldon of Shellsburg; two grandchildren, Maya and Keira VanderLeest; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, Moonshine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Michael Sheldon.
David Allan Sheldon was born July 19, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, to George J. and Phylis (Ribble) Sheldon. He served two terms with the United States Army during Vietnam. David married Doris Thomas on Sept. 26, 1970, in Cedar Rapids. He worked for Mestek Machinery in Cedar Rapids and was a member of the UAW.
David enjoyed playing and watching sports. He also loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was a hard working, kind, and gentle man who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the Kidney Cancer Association.
