Should legislators ban minors from using commercial tanning beds?

What next? Prevent the kids from going outside? Government should stick to the business of governance the voters entrusted them with.

I get both sides of the argument but in my opinion this is a ridiculous thing to have in legislation. There are more important things to worry about.
Why don't they just make an adult sign a consent for their child? Heck, make them watch a video before tanning to show people that have suffered.
The more laws passed by government the more freedom we keep losing! I don't get how people push their agendas onto everyone else. Everyone needs to worry about themselves.

If state lawmakers had any real health concerns regarding those under 18, or anyone older for that matter, they would ban smoking in all motor vehicles where passengers are being transported.
Banning tanning facilities from those under 18 is a step in the right direction. Anyone desiring a tanned look should simply buy some tanning lotion or cream and slather it on!

The bigger issue, I think, than the tanning booth, is the drinking and drugs in our school system. No one's addressing the issues we have regarding drugs and alcohol. We have teenagers dying every day in automobiles. I don't know how many deaths have been caused by tanning.

' Lisa J.: No. These law makers have bigger fish to fry! Let parents PARENT!
' Anna P.: Yes! Speaking as someone who was diagnosed with melanoma at 20.
' Geralyn L.: Yes. No one should be tanning, but at least minors should be protected from this horrible practice.
' Kurt B.: Yes, this and any food that is unhealthy, riding in automobiles, watching TV too closely, breathing air (pollution, you know), going outside in the sun, riding bicycles or sledding, climbing trees, and a few *thousand* other things.
' Scott V.: People do have medical issues that need it.
' Sindy C.: Ban it for everyone. It's dangerous.
' Mevn N.: I think it's a great idea. Cigarettes are bad for your health and you have to be 18 to get them.
' Andy C.: Just because something is not a good idea doesn't mean we need the government to ban it. I understand requiring parental consent for minors, but outright bans go too far.
' Kathie J.: I think tanning beds should be outlawed, period. Even adults get malignant melanoma!
' Abryonna M.: I tanned as a teen. If I wouldn't have been able to I would have found a way around it. Teens don't think things through.
' Teresa D.: Ban for those Under 16 maybe.
' Mary S.: I'm amazed they still exist with all we now know about the risk of skin cancer. Should only be available for adults, who are supposed to be able to weigh pros and cons.
' Ramona M.: I think with parents approval under 18. We can't ban everything.
' Suzanne S.: Yes this is a great idea. As a skin cancer survivor who used a tanning bed in the past - you should be an adult before having this opportunity. And then think twice.
' Valorie M.: Tanning beds are dangerous. But the government keeps regulating too much in our lives.
' Amanda P.: I support it. Applying new knowledge and logic to our laws isn't a bad idea, and it doesn't make us a 'sissy” or a 'nanny” state. Maybe some people believe car seats should have been left up to the parent too?
