Gerald J. Urban, 88, of Anamosa, died Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at his home. Services with military rites at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Survivor include his wife, Lois; his children, Janet (Joe) Bolsinger, Tom, Daniel (Deb), Julie (Gene) Achenbach, David (Theresa), Linda (Rick) Pegum, Christine (David) Pegum, Paul, Robert and Donald; and two sisters, Shirley Ferguson and Sandra (Art) Cejka. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Gerald was born on Jan. 17, 1927, in Sioux City, the son of John and Anna Divis Urban. He married Lois M. Jurgensen on Jan. 28, 1948, in Marion.
Gerald worked in road maintenance for the Iowa DOT and retired from there after more than 29 years of service. He was a member of the Squaw Creek Baptist Church and proudly served in the Navy during World War II. Gerald enjoyed fishing, hunting, tinkering with radios, TVs, cars and lawn mowers. His greatest joy was the time spent with his beloved family and many friends. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
