DONALD L. MEIER
Lowden
Donald L. Meier, 83, of Lowden, died Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Clarence Nursing Home. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lowden, by the Rev. Daniel Redhage. Burial: Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Lowden, with military rites. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence.
Born Aug. 29, 1932, in Lowden, Iowa, the son of Louis A. and Mathilda (Ernsting) Meier, he married Donna Schluter on Aug. 5, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden. Don was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and held various office positions and committees. He also was a member of the Iowa Auto Dealers Association, National Auto Dealers Association and Lowden Historical Society.
Don was employed at Kemmann Chevrolet for 65 years, was Lowden Commercial Club treasurer, LEDCO treasurer, on the board of directors for Lowden Medical Corp. and Lowden Retirement Corp. and was Lowden Development Corp. secretary for 38 years.
He played baseball with the Lowden Indees for 20 years, was a founding member of the 3/30 Club in Lowden, an Army veteran and a member of the Lowden AMVETS.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; brother, Norman of Florida; sisters-in-law, Kennethea Meier of Clarence and Madelyn Meier of Wheatland; brother-in-law, Fran Bush of Pueblo, Colo.; nieces, Rebecca Bush, Cindy Burken, Crystal Meier, Kris Mader and Kelly Keithley; and nephews Steve Meier, David Bush, Jon Bush and Jeff Meier.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arnold and Frederick; and sister, Betty Bush.
