Kathryn Sturm
KATHRYN STURM
Cedar Rapids
Heaven gained another angel when Kathryn Sturm, 88, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at Hiawatha Care Center. Service: Monday, July 30, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Family will greet friends an hour before service. Burial will immediately follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Kathryn was born on Jan. 6, 1930, the daughter of Frank and Louise (Knouse) Rainbolt. Kathryn married Frank Sturm Jr. on Feb. 2, 1950. They shared many memories together until his passing in 2004. Kathy found peace in gardening, bird watching and following in her mother's footsteps with caring for her African violets. In her free time, she enjoyed jigsaw and word search puzzles, watching the Cyclones, the Chicago Cubs, IndyCar racing (especially when Helio Castroneves was racing), cooking large meals, making Chex Mix and baking Christmas cookies, but, most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband; parents; infant son, Gary; brothers, Franklin, Kenneth and Wendell Rainbolt; sister, Helen Stanek; and her and Frank's dog, Ike.
Left to cherish Kathryn's memories are her two daughters, Belinda (Jim) Scott, Cedar Rapids, and Kim (Ross) Anderson, Johnston; grandchildren, Brian (Cindy) Scott, Chad (Allison) Scott and Nick (Crystal) Scott; great-grandchildren, Peyton, Brady, Jackson, Bella and Reid, and Greyson Scott, whom she was eagerly awaiting to arrive in September.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association in Kathryn's honor.
Online condolences may be directed to the family at www.cedarmemorial.com under Obituaries.
