Do we trust money will go solely toward streets?

Again, local officials are proposing an extension of the local-option sales tax for 10 years. Despite previous rejection by voters, officials promise this time to spend the money on city streets and no other pet projects. Never mind that with the exception of the kowtowing to downtown investors, city administrations since (Mayor) Don Canney offer no explanation for past expenditures of budgeted street moneys that apparently go to other projects.
Residential streets languish as nothing more than a citywide 3-D Rorschach test. West Post Road is an example of a well-traveled thoroughfare and yet to my knowledge has been given the old cold-patch treatment for more than 20 years.
The cacophonous voices of the big spenders can be heard again. If this (sales tax) proposal fails, they will resort to the surefire threat of raising taxes in lieu of laying off first responders. Politics 101.
