Dennis "Denny" Ray Shelton, 69, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015, in the care of his daughter at her home. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the funeral home. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Denny is survived by his wife, Beverly; children, Patrick (Tracey) Shelton of Florida and Jessica (Greg Heims) Shelton of Ely; grandchildren, Derek Drexler and Brenden Heims; sister, Bonnie Shelton of Florida; and brothers, John Shelton of California and Patrick (Patty) Shannon of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Denny was born July 3, 1946, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Patrick and Leona (Brown) Shannon. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1968 on the USS Charles R. Ware. On Nov. 21, 1970, he married Beverly McCalley in Cedar Rapids.
Denny was employed by Quaker Oats for 10 years and then did various carpentry and general labor work. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the Canton, Mo., 1800 Eagles Club. Denny enjoyed being "Elmo T." clown through the Cedar Rapids Eagles Club. He loved to fish and enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Iowa Hawkeyes.
A memorial fund has been established in Denny's memory.
