Evelyn was born Oct. 23, 1929, to Emil and Blanche (Nekola) Vokoun in Chelsea, Iowa. She attended school in Tama. Following school, she worked for Father Graham cleaning the Herring Hotel and other locations throughout Belle Plaine. On Oct. 3, 1950, Evelyn married Leonard Benesh at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Tama. The couple moved from rural Chelsea to their home in Belle Plaine. Evelyn furthered her schooling by attending Kirkwood Community College, earning her GED and certification in clerical work. She held many jobs around Belle Plaine including Funk's Seed, Belle Plaine Nursery and the Lincoln Cafe.
Evelyn was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing guitar, cross stitching, gardening and taking care of the shrubs around her home. Most of all, she loved spending time spoiling her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Neal Benesh of Luzerne; grandchildren, Scott, Mikael, Jodie, Kristin, Bo and A.J. Benesh; nine great-grandchildren; and many more loving family and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard (1987); sisters, Gladys Vokoun and Irene Nekola; and brother, Manson Vokoun.
Evelyn's family would like to thank the Keystone Care Center staff for the exceptional care and compassion they showed Evelyn.
