Neuzil, G. JoAnne
G. JoAnne Neuzil, 75, of Iowa City, died Thursday surrounded by her family at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a brief illness. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hills, with the Rev. Lou Leonhardt officiating. Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friends may also call after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.
JoAnne was born July 16, 1936, in Iowa City, the daughter of James and Catherine (Barry) Cox. On Aug. 1, 1953, JoAnne married Paul Neuzil at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. JoAnne and Paul farmed near Riverside and Hills most of their lives. In 2004, they moved to Emerson Point in Iowa City.
JoAnne was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Johnson County Democrats.
The family extends their appreciation to Dr. Ann Broderick and the staff in the respiratory therapy unit at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for the care they provided.
JoAnne is survived by her nine children and 25 grandchildren: Harold of Oxford and his children, Harold “Bo” (Roly) and Sarah; Carl (Darci) of Dallas, Texas and their children, Nicole, Carley, Kelsey and Keaton; James of Mechanicsville and his children, Melanie (Louie), Sherry, Jeremy (Allison), Josie and Dillon (Pam); Catherine (Dennis) Hurley of Stillwater, Minn., and their children, Shea (Christopher) and Neil (Amy); Christopher John of Iowa City and his children, Molly, Jacob, Justin and Elley; Paula (Gary) Piper of Iowa City and their children, Erin and Jennifer (Jason); Amie (William) Rockafellow of Iowa City and their children, Myrissa (Jeff), Weston (Jessica) and Myleena (Brock); Edward (Susanne) of Riverside and their daughter, Sydney; and Leo Anthony “Tony” of Iowa City and his daughter, Paige; 22 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Margaret Schott of West Branch, Colleen Keith of Iowa City and Emilie Young of Oxford.
JoAnne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul in 2009; infant daughter, Mary Jo; brothers, Richard and Joseph; and sisters, Dorothy Schultz, Mary Vest and Maureen Hamilton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elder Services or to Iowa City Hospice.
