DeJarnette, Myrna V.
Myrna V. DeJarnette, 99, of 360 17th St. SE, died Thursday, May 6, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. According to her wishes, her body was cremated. Her ashes are to be buried beside her beloved husband at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date, with the Rev. Tammy Buseman of First Baptist Church-Church of the Brethren officiating.
Survivors include two nephews, Thomas Ackerman (wife Paula and children, Caitlin and Alex) of Mendecito, Calif., and Gerald Ackerman (wife Eva) of Canyon Country, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Hilda Hansen, Vern Runyan, Margaret Ackerman and Jimmie Pumphrey; brother, Kenneth Pumphrey; and her dearly beloved husband, Henry.
Myrna was born Feb. 14, 1911, the daughter of Edgar and Sadie (Hatfield) Pumphrey, in New Market, Mo. Myrna was a member of First Baptist Church-Church of the Brethren and 42nd Rainbow Division Vets Association Auxiliary.
Myrna, along with her siblings, enjoyed happy childhoods in Weston and Kansas City, Mo., and Nebraska City, Neb. She graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1929 and moved with her family to Cedar Rapids in the early 1930s. Myrna married Henry DeJarnette in 1969. He died in 1997 after a long and happy marriage.
Myrna's first job was with Midland Mortgage and later worked for F.E. Corey, patent attorney, who, in 1939, formed Pickwick Co. She was employed by F.E. Corey and his son, Walter, at Pickwick for over 50 years, retiring in 1999.
Her life span of nearly a century covered The Great Depression, five wars, and numerous stages of industrialization up to and including the computer age thus far.
Myrna leaves this planet not with reluctance but with the anticipation of joining her family and her beloved husband, Henry.
Myrna will be greatly missed by her friends, especially her dear friend and care taker, Donna Fults, and her family.
Memorial donations may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
