Tjaden, Agnes
Agnes Tjaden, 84, of Monticello, died Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Wyoming, with interment in the Wayne Zion Cemetery, rural Monticello. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. The Rev. Ginger Anderson will officiate at the services.

Surviving are two children, Pamela (John) Baseler, Cedar Rapids, and Aaron (Sheri) Tjaden, Onslow; five grandchildren, Carrie (Joel) Federer, Jason Tjaden, Dr. Laura Baseler, Dr. Jamie Tjaden and Jessica Baseler; three great-grandchildren, Leighton and Evan Tjaden and Isaac Federer; two sisters, Margaret Hoeck, Independence, and Frances Hettinger, Manchester; and a brother, Lester (Sandra) Carlson of Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Marcia Rae in 1951; and her husband, Edward.
Agnes E. Carlson was born Sept. 16, 1929, in Benton County, Iowa, near Newhall. She was the daughter of Elmer and Elizabeth Becker Carlson. Agnes graduated from the Newhall High School with the class of 1948. She then worked at Elsie Harts Tourist Cabins near Newhall.
Agnes Carlson and Edward Tjaden were married on Sept. 14, 1949, at the First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The couple met at a dance in the Armar Ballroom. The couple farmed east of Onslow until 1979, when they retired from active farming and moved to Monticello. Edward preceded her in death on May 11, 1999. Agnes loved the farm, even though they moved to Monticello she never missed a day of planting or harvest. She enjoyed going to coffee in the morning with her many good friends. She loved to garden and can as well.
The family would like to thank Dr Weston and Dr. Ghosh and their staffs, all the Jets Bus Drivers and RSVP Drivers and the many friends that gave Agnes a ride over the years.
