Glenn Warren Katcher, 93 years young, peacefully entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, in Fort Smith, Ark.
He was born June 10, 1923, in Reynolds, Ill., to Guy L. and Gladys L. (Perry) Katcher. He was a 1940 graduate of Waverly (Iowa) High School. He served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre during World War II. He married Anna M. McDonald on July 5, 1949, in Rockford, Ill. They lived in Charles City, Cedar Rapids, Miami, Fla., Santa Clarita, Calif., and Fort Smith, Ark.
He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church and captain of the ushers. He owned and operated Katcher Lawn Care Inc. for many years in Cedar Rapids.
He was an avid bowler, earning many trophies with a 189 average. Glenn took great pleasure in feeding and watching the birds and squirrels.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Gerald, Ivan, Raymond and Richard; and one half sister, Doris Newman.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Ann; his children, Linda (Robert) Kanak of Grand Lake, Okla., Barbara (Henry) Tolopilo of Santa Clarita, Calif., Dale (Charlotte) Katcher of Ottawa, Ill., and Rex (Debbie) Katcher Sr. of Garrison; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Don and Larry (Eileene); and one sister, Luella Jean Moore.
Funeral service was March 1 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Fort Smith. Burial was in U.S. National Cemetery, Fort Smith, with military honors under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Shaun, Jason and Weston Kanak, Dustin Katcher, Stephen Tolopilo and Harmand Weeks. Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Meyer, Patrick High, Rex Katcher Jr. Paul Gaspar, Kyle O'Hagan and Seth Hines.
