Garland passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 27, 2016.
He is survived by his wife, LaLonnie, of 50 years; his children, Tina (Darryl), Garland Jr. (Marcia) and Bobbi Jo (Michael); his dog, Stinger; brother, Raymond; sisters, Nancy (Don) and Betty (Weston); grand-children, James (Darla) and Jason (Molly) McGaffic,
April (Bobby) Harris, Samantha (Damon) and Nathan Mann, Jacob (Lacey) Alff, Jessica (Luke) Owens and Jenna Alff (Jason); and seven great-grandchildren.
Garland was preceded in death by his mother, Sylvia Bird, and stepfather, Lawrence; his father, Edward Alff; and his dog, Precious.
Garland was born on a farm in Tazewell County, Va., and was raised in Carson, Iowa. He later married Lonnie and moved to Cedar Rapids. Garland worked at Weyerhauser for 38 years before retiring in 2005.
Garland enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowling, but nothing ever made him happier than the time he spent with his family and dogs.
He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
