STEVE L. WESTON
Fort Myers, Fla.
Steve L. Weston, 65, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away following a courageous battle with bile duct cancer, surrounded by his family, at Hope Hospice House on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018. Steve's wishes were to be cremated without having any formal services, and to rest in peace in his home in Florida. A Celebration of Life for Steve will be held on Feb. 17 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood, 520 Wilson Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Steve was born on Nov. 3, 1952, in Waterloo, Iowa. He was the first son of Russel and Delores (Mennen) Weston.
Steve and Becky (Wilson) were united in marriage on Aug. 3, 1973, at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. On Aug. 29, 1978, they were blessed with a son, Eric.
Steve graduated from Jefferson High School in 1970. He also attended one year at the University of Iowa and several years at Kirkwood Community College, graduating with an AS degree in pre-pharmacy. Steve graduated from Cornell College, Mount Vernon, Iowa, in 1981 with a BSS degree in chemistry, economics and business.
Steve worked for 22 years in IT/accounting at Larken Inc. (Hospitality Co.). They owned and managed several hotels around the country. He also worked at Highway Equipment as a payroll specialist for a few years, but had to quit working due to health issues.
He had a passion for cooking, baking and collecting antique radios.
Steve's interest in antique radios began when his mother-in-law and father-in-law gave him a Christmas present of an antique radio. He loved to refinish radios and make them look brand-new.
Steve is survived by his wife, Becky, of 44 years; his son, Eric (fiancee Stephanie Oldock), Fort Myers, Fla.; mother, Delores Herington, Cedar Rapids; brother, Russel (Missy), Olathe, Kan.; sister, Roxanne (Garey), Youngstown, Ohio; mother-in-law, Gloria Wilson, Cedar Rapids; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Russel; father-in-law, Donald Wilson; and grandparents.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Steve's memory.
Steve was a good son, brother, husband and father, and will be missed tremendously.
