Gary Ray Sutton, 68, of Coralville, passed away Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, at his home. A memorial service will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapels, 126 Third St. NE, Mason City, IA 50401. A gathering will be held at a later date in Coralville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gary Sutton memorial fund.
Gary was born Jan. 15, 1948, in Mason City, the son of Raymond and Veronica (Lang) Sutton. He graduated from Mason City High School and also attended NIACC, formerly Mason City Junior College. Gary retired following a career with the state of Iowa. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, watching "Wheel of Fortune" and sports. He especially liked Cubs baseball, Hawkeye sports and auto racing. He loved making people laugh and helping others, as well as being an advocate for NORML.
Gary is survived by his son, Matt Sutton of Coralville; mother, Veronica Sutton of Mason City; brother, Randy Sutton of Mason City; cousin, Judy DeRock of Clear Lake; former spouse, Mary Willie of Coralville; and many extended family and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Sutton.
