IOWA CITY -- Tom Brands didn't know what the tiebreaker criteria was until it was explained to him later. It was news to a lot of people.

But there was no draw, even though the score of the Saturday night dual meet between Brands' Iowa team and Oklahoma State was 16-16.

Unlike last year when the two teams had a 15-15 tie at Stillwater, college wrestling settles draws with tiebreaker criteria now. The first two tiebreakers were ties, so it went to total match points, and the Cowboys had a 54-51 edge.

The capacity Carver-Hawkeye Arena crowd of 15,400 (it used to be 15,500) seemed to know who won the tiebreaker before the referees did the math. An arena that was loud, loud, loud through much of the dual turned quiet.
