Pride Week returns to Iowa City with parade, festival, movies

Break out the rainbow flags - it's time for Pride Week in Iowa City.
The 2014 celebration of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer community culminates with a June 21 parade and festival. There are plenty of other activities throughout the week, including a movie series at FilmScene, a picnic and performances at Studio 13. Here's what you need to know:
Parade and festival
June 21, 12 p.m. - 5 p.m., downtown Iowa City.
The parade starts at noon at College Green Park and travels through downtown Iowa City for approximately 30 to 45 minutes, along Johnson Street, Iowa Avenue, Dubuque Street, Washington Street, Linn Street and College Street. The 'Pride on the Pedmall” festival will follow the parade.
Picnic in the Park
June 20, 5:30-8pm, Upper City Park
Free walking tacos and wieners provided by Shakespeare's Pub and Grill and side and cookies provided by Pizza Pit.

Here's the summary:
June 16: Big Gay Bar Crawl, 8 p.m.
June 17: Pride Karaoke, 10 p.m.
June 18: Open Stage, 10:30 p.m.
June 19: I.C. Kings Pride Extravaganza, 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
June 20: Pride drag show and dance party, 10:30 p.m.
June 21: Free food in Studio 13 and in the alley, 1 - 7 p.m.
Pride show 7 p.m. - 2 a.m.
June 22: Sasha Belle's Drag Race Season 3 finale, 10 p.m.
FilmScene will screen four movies, each for one night only, throughout the week. The 'ScreenGlow” series focuses on LGBT themes. Ticket information at http://www.icfilmscene.org/

'To Be Takei”
5 p.m. June 15.
(2014) Dir. Jennifer M. Kroot. A profile of Star Trek icon, actor and activist, and prolific Facebooker George Takei‘s playful and profound trek for life, liberty, and love.
'Before You Know It”
5:45 p.m. June 17
(2014) Dir. PJ Raval. Three gay seniors navigate the adventures, challenges and surprises of life and love in their golden years. Free screening presented by Iowa City Senior Center and Johnson County Visibility Action Team.
'Next Goal Wins”
8 p.m. June 18
(2014) Dirs. Mike Brett, Steve Jamison. Jaiyah Saelua is the transgender John Terry, who plays on American Samoa - the world's worst international soccer team, profiled in this fascinating doc.
'Test”
5 p.m. June 21
(2014) Dir. Chris Mason. Set in San Francisco during the height of the AIDS crisis in 1985, focuses on a prestigious dance company dealing with the spread of HIV and its effects on the lives of its performers.
