Melsha, Robert D. Jr.
Robert D. Melsha Jr., 54, of 7010 Baldridge Place NE, Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his parents, Robert and JoAnne Melsha Sr.; and two brothers, Steven and Daniel, both of Cedar Rapids.
He is also survived by a niece and nephew, Lexis and Hunter Melsha; a special friend, Mary Hand; and the staff at Discovery Living.
Bob was born on Jan. 2, 1957, in Cedar Rapids. He lived at home until the age of 12, when he moved to Woodward State Hospital School. Bob was brought back to his community on Sept. 2, 1983, and received residential services through Discovery Living Inc., and vocational services through Options of Linn County.
Bob was the strong and silent type, but could warm your heart with just his smile. Bob loved laughing, listening to music, doing his puzzles, eating peanuts, Cheetos and M & Ms, and people watching through his hand made ”Scope.” Bob also loved John Deere and had his room decorated in John Deere bedding, pictures and tractors. Bob may not have been able to speak but he could let you know what he wanted with a pull on your arm, a thump of his chest or the look on his face.
Bob's other great love was his family. Whenever staff told Bob his dad was coming, Bob's face would light up with a smile from ear to ear and he would anxiously await his dad's arrival. Going home to his mom's meatloaf was also a high point.
Bob was a wonderful person and will be missed greatly by all his staff and his family. No words can truly express how dear he was to each and every one of us.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Discovery Living Inc., 1015 Old Marion Rd. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.
