Nelson, Elaine F.
Elaine F. Nelson, 88, of Willow Gardens, died there Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, after a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church, Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Jay Jentink will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Survivors include two daughters, Sammi (Irv) Janey of Marion and Gloria (Tom) Thune, and a son, Larry (Julie), both of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Valena Stoner of New Jersey. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Victor and Tammi Janey, Tiffany Dallenbach, Angela Thune, Michelle Allen, and Brian and Mark Miller; 11 great-grandchildren, Krysti, Jeni, Sarah, Cameron, Zoe, Neal, Dayton, Noah, Alexandria, Olivia and Evan; and one great-great-grandchild, Sarah.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Orville; a grandchild, Pamela; and a great- grandchild, Dustin.
Elaine was born March 11, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Burl and Cora (Cook) Elmore. She married Allan L. Nelson on Oct. 26, 1941, in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1997. Elaine was a bookkeeper at Bishops for many years and later at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co.
Elaine was a former member of Ellis Park Church of God, most recently Calvary Baptist Church, and the Red Hat Club. She enjoyed many crafts, including crocheting, reading, quilting, and time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Memorial donations may be given to the American Heart Association or Mercy Hospice in Elaine's name.
