Tony Nemer, 90, of Marion, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday afternoon, Oct. 17, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church by Father Fred Shaheen, where friends may call after 9 a.m. at the church. Trisagion prayers begin at 9:45 a.m. Burial: St. George Orthodox Cemetery. After the services and burial, a Mercy Meal will be served at the church hall. Papich-Kuba Funeral Service is serving the family.
Tony is survived by a brother, Joe (Elaine) Nemer of Houston, Texas; nieces and nephews, Sam Nemer, Brandi Nemer, Dana Christensen, Lisa Thompson, Mike Nemer, Sue Pauba and Nancy Kalina; and many great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Mary Nemer; his brothers, Eli and Everett Nemer; and nephews, Danny and Mark Nemer.
Tony was born Jan. 13, 1925, in Bassett, Neb., and moved with his family to Cedar Rapids in 1938. He and his brother Everett owned and operated the Fifth Street Grocery Store from 1942 to 1985.
Tony was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church and an avid member of the Witwer Senior Center.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
