Christensen, Fred 'Whitey'
Fred “Whitey” Christensen, 56, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at Marengo Memorial Hospital, Marengo, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, at the Blairstown Legion Hall with Pastor Robin Tyner officiating. Public visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Blairstown.
Fred was born August 13, 1954, at Cedar Rapids, to John and Geri (Merritt) Christensen. During Vietnam he served his nation in the U.S. Army. Fred was a member of the M.J. Kirby American Legion Post No. 170 of Blairstown.
He was employed as a contractor installer by Mediacom. In his leisure, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Fred is survived by his daughters, Kelly (Todd) Sweet of Atkins, Jamie (Tim) Miller and Jodi (Josh) Wilkins, all of Blairstown; his grandchildren, Keagan, McKenzie, Alex, Hailey, Brycen, Chloe, Dakota and Emma; his brothers, Mike (Pat) Christensen of Keosauqua, Eric Christensen of Marengo, and Chris (Kayla) Christensen of Blairstown; and his sister, Karen (John) Skow of Atkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Jace Wilkins; and his sister, Phyllis Christensen.
