Boyd, Carl
Carl Boyd was born June 10, 1935, in Sullivan County, Mo., to John Robert Boyd and Lillian Helen Marie Smiley Boyd. He grew up on a farm in Missouri until moving to Cedar Rapids, Iowa when he was 17. It was here that he met Sandra L. Hansen. They were married July 23, 1955, at Hus Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids.
Carl worked at Quaker Oats for a few years before beginning a career laying floors for Appleby & Horn Tile Co., which he did for 28 years.He then moved to Littleton, Colo., where he owned and ran a liquor store for almost five years. He then moved to McCook, Neb., where he was a highway contractor for the United States Postal Service.
He retired in 2001 in Bird City, Kan., then to Aurora, Colo., where renal failure and diabetes took his life on May 9, 2012.
Carl is survived by his wife, Sandra Boyd of Aurora, Colo.; three children, Renee (Richard) Hoehler of Centennial, Colo., Tamee (Ken) Vickers of Centennial, Colo., and Michael Carl Boyd of Papillion, Neb.; seven grandchildren, Bethany and Andy (Renee), Kyle, Drew and Kade (Tamee) and Zach and Seth (Michael); a great-grandchild, Emmy Jo (Renee/Bethany); two brothers, James Robert Boyd of Marion and Orval Lee Boyd of Frederick, Colo.; and two sisters, Helen Burks of Olathe, Kan., and Ramah Huddleston of Mexico, Mo.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters: Virginia Clark, Mary Lou Martin, Ila Marie Boyd and Anna Belle Boyd; and two brothers, J.W. Boyd and Lawrence Boyd.
Carl loved his family and friends. He loved to spend time with them, fish, hunt, and watch football.
He will be greatly missed - we love him dearly.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, 4200 First Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 18, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
