Jones, Dorothy
Dorothy Jones, 90, of Oak Park Place passed away Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, at Manor Care. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd., Dubuque. Private family services will be held Thursday with burial in Dubuque Memorial Gardens.
Dorothy was born on March 27, 1922 in Freeport, Ill., the daughter of Roy and Emma (Harbsmeier) Smith. She married John H. Jones on July 1, 1943 in Salina, Kan. He preceded her in death on June 25, 1988.
She was happiest when she was surrounded by her large family which was her greatest joy in life.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Judy Kurt and Carolyn Suby, both of Des Moines, Craig (Becky) Jones, Dorothy (Harold) Fuller, Cheryl Cullum, Holly (Dean) Nauman, Tracy (Steven) Terry and Darren Jones, all of Dubuque, Vickie (Timothy) Callahan of Cedar Rapids, Todd (Lori) Jones and Lisa (Michael) Miller, both of Rockford, Ill., and Sharon (Jeffrey) Wischmeyer, of LeRoy, Mich.; a daughter-in-law, Diane Jones of Dubuque; a sister, Phyllis Clancy, of Freeport, Ill.; 29 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren with two on the way; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, “Cinder.”
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; children, John D. Jones, Keith D. Jones, and Pamela Sloan; sons-in-law, Tom Sloan, David Suby and Kurt Cullum; sisters, Eleanor Holland, Florence Wittenmeyer and Dolores LeFevre; and a great-granddaughter, Emma Fuller.
The family request no flowers.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Christine Sinsky for her care and compassion over the years and to the wonderful staff of Manor Care and Hospice of Dubuque.
