Volunteer drivers help cancer patients

The American Cancer Society Road to Recovery program relies on volunteer drivers, such as me, to take cancer patients to and from their treatments.

Lack of transportation often is a major problem. Family and friends might help but might not always be available, and people undergoing cancer treatment often do not feel well enough to drive. Being able to alleviate their concern regarding transportation helps to eliminate any added stress during treatment.

Driving is a small commitment for me that makes a big difference in a patient's life. And the program is in need of more volunteer drivers in both Linn and Johnson counties. Each volunteer decides when to drive, how often and how far.
