Jay Alan Duenow, 64, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 8, 2020, at his home after a battle with cancer and frontal temporal dementia. A private family service will take place at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, with burial in Linwood Cemetery.
Jay was born Nov. 20, 1955, in Ames, the son of Gerald and Barbara (Hawkins) Duenow. In 1974, he graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids. Jay went on to attend Kirkwood Community College and Mount Mercy College. He was united in marriage to Susan Sisler in 1978, and to this union two children were born. The couple later divorced. Jay worked at Star Fixture, which his father owned, from 1973 to 1993. His career then led him to St. Louis, Mo., where he received his master's degree from Lindenwood University. He was a member of Lord of Life Church in Chesterfield, Mo.
Jay served in various sales manager positions and later left corporate life to start his own lawn care and commercial cleaning business. He could tackle anything.
Survivors include his daughters, Lindsay (Garrett) Knowles, and their children, Connor and Julia, and Lauren (Joe) Schnitzler, and their son, Harry, all of St. Louis; mother, Barbara Duenow of Cedar Rapids; sister, Jeri Duenow of Cedar Rapids; uncle, Gene (Katie) Duenow; cousins, Vicki, Lisa, Stacy and Tina; and former wife, Susan (Sisler) Duenow.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Duenow.
