A West Branch man is accused of second degree theft after authorities say he allegedly stole cash from numerous vehicle tows and impounds at Campus Towing.
Records indicate that Robert D. VanGinkel, 50, of 126 Scott Dr., allegedly stole $3,702 worth of cash tow and impound tickets from Campus Towing, 390 Westcor Dr., between Jan. 26 and July 30.
Authorities say that the cash tow tickets were monitored after it became apparent that some were unaccounted for.
During this process of monitoring the system, the tickets were allegedly found missing after VanGinkel, an operations manager, had completed his part of the bookkeeping process, Coralville police said.
When questioned by police about the missing cash tickets, VanGinkel allegedly said that he was "only borrowing" the money. He is no longer employed by the company, records indicate.
VanGinkel was being held at the Johnson County Jail Thursday morning, waiting to appear before a judge.
