Dennis L. Hansen Sr., 83,
of Anamosa, died Tuesday, April 7, 2020, at Jones Regional Medical Center. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Iowa Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen; a daughter, Darcy Hansen; a son, Dennis Jr.; his twin sister, Gale Luse, all of Cedar Rapids; and a stepdaughter, Dianne Eddy of Anamosa. He also is survived by four grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, with one on the way; nieces and nephews and neighbors, Brian and Jill Darrow and their children, who Dennis considered grandchildren, Alissa, Ethan and Ashton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepson, Michael.
Dennis was born July 11, 1936, in Jones County, the son of Carl and Catherine (Clemmons) Hansen. He graduated from Lisbon High School. He married Colleen Pitcher; they later were divorced. He married Kathleen S. Crawford on April 20, 1985, in Anamosa.
Dennis worked at the Cedar Rapids Post Office for several years and later retired as the postmaster in Anamosa after many years of service. He also was the former mayor and a City Council member in Anamosa.
Dennis was a member of the Starlighters, Rhythm of Life and the American Legion, as well as proudly serving in the Air Force. He enjoyed collecting stamps and coins, playing Santa Claus, and watching the Hawkeyes and NASCAR.
Dennis forever will be remembered as a wonderful and caring husband, father, stepfather, grandfather and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
