Joan Denny, 74, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2016, in her home. Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, July 2, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 1, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, and an hour before services on Saturday at the church. Burial: 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Survivors include her children, Mary (Norvin) Coblentz, Susan Denny and Ellen (Matthew) Lantz, all of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Elias, Josiah, Eva, Jonas and Ethan Coblentz and Michael and Dorian Remington, all of Cedar Rapids; sister, Jane (Jim) Reynolds of Clear Lake, Iowa; brother, Phyl (Lona) Brager of Oskaloosa, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Denny of Oskaloosa and Sally McCombs of Delta, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Denny; son, Michael Denny; and sister, Colleen Hernden.
Joan was born Feb. 17, 1942, in Van Nuys, Calif., daughter of Orval and Berniece (Aden) Brager. She graduated from Klemme High School in 1960. Joan married Billy Denny in Hayesville, Iowa, Feb. 5, 1965. Joan was a full-time "Grammie," had strong faith and was trained in Stephen Ministries. She was well known for her cake-decorating skills and ran a home daycare for many years. Joan was a loving mother and grandmother.
