Wenger, Paul D.
Paul D. Wenger of Anamosa, formerly of Coggon, died Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at Silvercrest of Anamosa. Services: 3:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Central City, by the Rev. Nick Needham. The family will greet friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday before the service at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Forrest Wenger; children, Susan (Gary) Halstead, Russell (Mary Ann) Wenger, Charles (Jean) Wenger and a "special daughter," Margaret Ann (Patton) Phillips; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one soon-to-be great-great-grandchild.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Genevieve Woodward and Laurene Barton.
Paul was born Oct. 18, 1916, in Alburnett, to Harry and Ione (Lyon) Wenger. He was a graduate of Alburnett High School. On Aug. 12, 1939, Paul was married to Marie Forrest at Marie's parents' home south of Coggon. Paul worked at Peter Pan Bakery, Montgomery Ward and Dowing Box in Cedar Rapids and farmed for more than 40 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Central City.
