McCalley, Noel Jay
Noel Jay McCalley, 75, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Pastor Dan Peterson. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial: Walker Cemetery, Walker.
Survivors include his wife, Cae; two sons, Timothy (Emmy) McCalley of Pittsboro, Ind., and Michael McCalley of Chicago; two granddaughters, Ayla and Sydney McCalley; stepgranddaughter, Benita (Justin) McCartney of Acworth, Ga.; stepgreat-grandson, Jordan McCartney; sister, June (Larry) Balvanz of New Providence, Iowa; brother-in-law, Paul Feckers of New Hartford, Iowa; sister-in-law, Pat Cuvelier of Salem, Ore.; a niece and four nephews; his former wife, Rowena (Harry) Johnson of Lexington, Ky.; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Lyn Feckers; and brother-in-law, Lon Cuvelier.
Noel was born Jan. 14, 1938, the son of Forrest and Gertrude (Speake) McCalley, in Walker, Iowa. A 1956 graduate from Alburnett High School, he served in the United States Army. On July 16, 1971, Noel was united in marriage to Cae Cuvelier. He worked at Northwestern Bell for over 30 years and farmed until his retirement.
Noel was a member of the Alburnett Christian Church, where he served as an Elder, Alburnett Historical Society, Otter Creek Sportsman Club, serving as a board director, life member of the NRA and life member of the ATA.
An avid collector, Noel enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapshooting, for which he has received many awards, and most of all, spending time with his family and friends.
A memorial fund has been established in Noel's memory.
