Richard Lanning, 81, of Alburnett, passed away Monday, Aug. 17, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marion conducted by the Rev. Greg Williamson. Friends may visit one hour before the service Friday at the church. Graveside service: 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at Lafayette Cemetery. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Marion.
Richard is survived by his wife, Shirley of Alburnett; his children, Lynne (Brian) Westphal of Iowa City, Ron Lanning of Marion and Brenda (Jeff) Krause of Palo; six grandchildren, Breanna, Hillary, Jessica, Katie, Jacob and Brooklyn; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Harold (Gerry) Lanning of Center Point; sister, Betty Ann (Don) Hein of Cedar Rapids; and sister-in-law, Neva Lanning of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; great-granddaughter, Arianna; a brother, LaVern; and a sister, Juanita.
Richard was born May 2, 1934, to Ernest and Lorraine (Evans) Lanning in Linn County. On Nov. 27, 1954, he married Shirley (Snodgrass) at Calvary Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids. He was employed at Rockwell Collins for 40 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marion.
A memorial fund in Richard's memory has been established.
