Dorothy "Dottie" Huerter, 74, of Marion, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, with a rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Marion, conducted by Father O'Connor. One hour visitation will be before the funeral Mass at the church. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband, Mel of Marion; children, Dan (Becky Marx) Huerter of Cedar Rapids, Valerie (Roger) Craddock of Marion and Scott (Jill) Huerter of Rochester, Minn.; grandchildren, Tyler (fiancee, Lonna Vanderploeg) Huerter and Brooke (fiance, Matt Sorenson) Huerter; sister, Dianne Dinter (Dick Prohaska) of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Jan Dinter of Davenport; special friend, Lynn Emerich of Marion; beloved dog, Shooter; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Dennis; grandparents; and special friend, Rilda Fish.
Dottie was born Nov. 7, 1942, in Rochester, N.Y., daughter of John and Ruth (Forrester) Dinter. In 1960, she graduated from Marion High School. Melvin and Dottie were united in marriage on June 23, 1973, in Marion. Dottie was a purchasing agent and purchasing manager for multiple companies and then later she became a Realtor. She was a member of the American Business Woman's Association and Purchasing Managers Association. Dottie also was an active member at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Dottie was a good bowler and a great cook. In retirement, Dottie cared for her loving husband, Mel.
