Dixie Kay Waddell, 71, of Mechanicsville, entered eternal rest Nov. 25, 2015. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 28, at 11 a.m. at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, Iowa, with a luncheon in Dixie's honor immediately following the service at Fry Funeral Home. Inurnment will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville, Iowa. Visitation will be Nov. 28 from 9:30 to 11 a.m., also at Fry Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established. Dixie was born Aug. 20, 1944, in Osceola, Iowa, to Lowell and Evelyn (Gorr) Burkhead. She attended and graduated from Lorimor High School, class of 1962. Dixie married the love of her life, Harold Waddell, in January 1962, and later became a medical transcriptionist at Mercy Towncrest. Dixie's husband, family and love for Jesus were her life. Family camping trips and old country music (Alan Jackson being her favorite), gardening and quilting, all of these are things Dixie enjoyed in her lifetime, making and leaving beautiful memories for her family and friends.
Dixie is survived by her husband, Harold Waddell of Mechanicsville; sons, Marty (Karen) Waddell of Tipton, Iowa, and Terry (Patti) Waddell of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; sisters, Marcia Dunston of Stanwood, Iowa, and Sherry Carter of Iowa City, Iowa; brother, Bill Burkhead of Creston, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Shirley Page; and brother, Jack Burkhead.
