Meyer, Monte
Monte Meyer, 69, died peacefully at the home of his sister, Rita McDonald, on December 16, 2009, surrounded by his family. Monte was diagnosed with cancer in 2005.
Monte was born April 15, 1940, one mile west of Williamsburg, at the home of his parents, Harvey and Netha Noyes Meyer. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, attended St. Paul Lutheran School and Williamsburg High School. He served in the U.S. Navy.
Monte lived in the U.S. Virgin Islands for nearly 20 years. He traveled extensively and lived in many foreign countries. For the past 20 years, Monte summered at the McDonalds', helping on their farm. He wintered anywhere warm, the past five years in Dateland, Ariz.
Monte is survived by his sisters: Sandy (Ed) Ficken of Williamsburg; Virginia (Gary) Rickard of Troy, Ohio; and Rita (Bill) McDonald of North English; uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Monte was preceded in death by his father, Harvey, in September 1969 and his mother, Netha, in February 2009.
Monte requested no services or visitation following his cremation. A family and friend get together will be announced in January. Memorials may be sent to Iowa City Hospice or the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service are caring for arrangements.
