Hansen, Helen S.
Helen S. Hansen, 97, of Independence, formerly of Norway and Newhall, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 23, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following a short illness. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Walford, with the Rev. David Mosher officiating. Burial: Norway Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the church in Walford.
Helen was born on June 8, 1912, in Anamosa, the daughter of Paul G. and Anna P. (Greene) Lehmann. She was raised in Monticello and graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids. She was united into marriage to Otto Christian Hansen on July 23, 1934, in Red Wing, Minn. The couple farmed in Norway until their retirement in 1974 and moved to Newhall, living there until moving to Independence in 2006.
She is survived by four daughters, Carol Ann (Cliff) Bartlett of Whitney, Texas, Judith Kay Hansen of Denver, Colo., Linda Marie (Bill) Neel of Georgetown, Texas, and Mary Ellen (Francis) Bagby of Independence; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Otto in 1979; a sister, Wilma Wetzel; and a brother, George Lehmann.
