Burreson, Jim
Jim Burreson, 65, of Decorah, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Decorah Lutheran Church, with the Rev. James Glesne presiding. Burial will be in St. Benedict's Catholic Cemetery, Decorah. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Schluter–Balik Funeral Home in Decorah and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
James “Jim” Charles Burreson was born Nov.27, 1943, the son of Everett and Alma (Linderbaum) Burreson, in Decorah, Iowa. Jim graduated from Decorah High School in 1961. He attended the University of Iowa and then graduated from Luther College in 1964. Jim married Pam Lampman on Aug. 25, 1969, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Chicago. In December 1971, Jim and Pam moved to Decorah, where Jim worked for Knut Hamre at Hamre Shoes. In 1972, Jim purchased the shoe business from Huns Bergsrud and operated Jim's Shoes until his death.
Jim loved to go fishing and to fish “Up North” in Minnesota. He also enjoyed gardening, cooking and his Lionel train, but above all, Jim loved his family. Jim was a member of the Decorah Lutheran Church. He served on the Winneshiek County Board of Health and the Phelps Cemetery Board.
Jim's survivors include his three children, Dawn (Erik) Lindgren, Arvada, Colo., Matthew (Jerita), Houston, Texas, and Rachel (Jeff Bray) Burreson, North Liberty; one grandson, Hunter Bray; sister-in-law, Barb Burreson, Hopkinton; one uncle, Lawrence Linderbaum and wife Evelyn, Monona; and two aunts, Marie Linderbaum, Ossian, and Marian Linderbaum, Castalia, along with several nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Everett Burreson in January 1984 and Alma Burreson in September 2008; his wife, Pamela Burreson on June 4, 1985; and one brother, David in January 1999.
