Velma J. Benesh, 83, of Marion, died Sunday, July 23, 2017, at her residence under the care of hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 27, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories officiated by Certified Celebrant Julie Freese. Visitation will be held from 4 until 6 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Velma was born June 2, 1934, in Morrison, Ill., to Matthew P. and Sylvia Dyson Swanson. She was united in marriage to Arlo G. Benesh on April 7, 1963, in Cedar Rapids. To this union, three children were born.
Velma was active in Excelsior Club, Knitting Club, Garden Club, Springville Women's Auxiliary, and was a 4-H leader for many years.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Arlo; children, Valeria Henning, Al (Diane) Benesh and Vanessa (Brent) Bane; seven grandchildren, Thomas Henning, Joseph Henning, Cody Benesh, Ryan Benesh, Travis Benesh, Dylan Bane and Corrina Bane; as well as five sisters and two brothers.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
