Hemphill, Robert
Robert Hemphill, 74, of Central City, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Regional Medical Center, Manchester, following a long battle with cancer. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Central City. The Rev. Mary Green will officiate. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial: Walker Cemetery, Walker.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Hemphill of Central City; mother, Gertrude Hemphill of Walker; children, Marie (Dan) Henderson of Ryan, Karla (Don) Hogan of Marion, Tina (Dennis) Hogan of Coggon and Lynette Hemphill of California; grandchildren, Casey, Katie, Kaleb, Haley, Koldon, McKenna and Molly; great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Ryker, Gunner and Anthony; siblings, Geraldine (Kenneth) LeHew of Holland, Iowa, Richard (Jean) Hemphill of Toddville, Carl Hemphill of California, Paul Hemphill of Georgia, David Hemphill of Missouri and Susan Gorsh of Walker; sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Hemphill and Carolyn (Walter) Andrews; brother-in-law, Bill (Diann) Weininger; and mother-in-law, Rose Weininger.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gerold Hemphill; infant daughter, Rose Ann Hemphill; siblings, Charles Hemphill and Diane Hemphill; and father-in-law, Vernon Weininger.
Robert was born Nov. 11, 1938, in Walker, Iowa, son of Gerold and Gertrude (Wachal) Hemphill. On March 27, 1960, he married Marilyn Weininger in Walker. He worked as a mechanic for the Cedar Rapids School District for 23 years, retiring in 2007.
Robert and his wife Marilyn were involved with the High School Rodeo which was held at the Central City Fair Grounds. He enjoyed chuck wagon racing, hunting and fishing.
